Diamond "Shah" is a diamond of Indian origin, weighing 88.7 carats, which is kept in the Diamond Fund in Moscow. Was one of the greatest treasures of the Persian shahs. Believe that the stone was found in the mines of Golconda in the XVI century, the diamond clearly visible three engraved name of its owner. Was referred to among other gifts to Russian Emperor Nicholas I, the ruler of Persia, Fath Ali Shah, after in January 1829 in Tehran, the murder of the Russian embassy, headed by Aleksandr Griboyedov. Then there was the threat of conflict between Persia and Russia. Nicholas I was ready to go to war. To avoid diplomatic trouble was sent to St. Petersburg a caravan of gifts, and among them was the famous diamond Shah. Alexander Griboyedov was one of the most talented men of his time, a diplomat writer, musician, soldier. Until now, the Russian theater is his play "Woe from Wit", and the musicians play the famous "Waltz" Griboyedov. Ironically, the last prize Oscar was awarded to movie with the same story about Iran.  |

I was in Taranto for 22 months...the bars were easy to find..but I did not know about the Museum !! |

philb - I suppose you could say that you were busy absorbing "culture" of a different sort in Taranto.
