Excellent question Glaswegian! I'm not sure about the first worldwide airmail stamp, but the first U.S. airmail stamp was Scott C3 (not C1 as you would expect).
I would think that the U.S. and German Zepps are the most sought after today. They are in plentiful supply, but the high demand keeps their prices up.
The first air mail stamp was the semi-offical Buffalo Ballon stamp issued in 1877 Scott# CL1 lighter then air or the Vin Fiz Flyer 1911 as first heavier then air. Argentina 1912; France 1910/12; Germany 1912/13, 25 issues; Sweden 1912; Switerland 1913/14, 12 issues; all are semi-postal.
This is a moving target of a question. Do you consider the Vin-Fiz flyer as an official Air Mail stamp ? The first US Air Mail stamps (Jenny's) don't even say "Air Mail" but instead use the term Postage. There also is an early Australian pre 1913 and also 1 from Germany pre 1913.
