Hello,

Aside from avoiding fees on sites like ebay, what are the advantages to selling through this site? I've only got 11 posts to my credit, so I'm trying to decide how earnestly to work toward 50! Are there other advantages than just avoiding fees...???

Thank you!

For one thing you are sharing stamps and covers with fellow collectors..i have made many friends here..you will not get rich here, but you can dispose of items you do not need !

This site is more of a "friendly" sale..

I might hold the record for paying the most for a collection on here...

From a selling point you can as stated dispose of some unwanted material and the fact you are dealing with people you are firmiliar with is nice. Will you make much -probably not - however you can also pick up some great deals . Some of the lots I recently sold went really low and to top it off I added unique items to the covers which were worth probably more than the contents. Basically this site is not about the auctions but more about knowledge and fellow collectors than a sales site.

All of replies so far make sense. It sounds like selling here is more to become part of the community and to enjoy the hobby with others versus practical 'business-type' benefits. Thanks!

Another benefit, you can gradually build a "following" here; after a buyer gets 3 or 4 nice lots with no problems, you can bet he'll be watching for new auctions every day.

And of course, any sale on ANY online enterprise allows the seller to use up his discount postage, which is not a huge factor, but it helps.

Finally, if we worked hard at converting GUESTS into MEMBERS, who could soon BUY, more prior members would sign up to sell, to the benefit of SCF, and presumably boosting sales for existing sellers. It's a win-win situation.

If I understand the rules, though, you can't sell on the site unless you are a "supporter" which involves a monthly cost, no? I guess if another member "supports" and starts a thread looking for particular stamps to buy, then a seller could get involved?

Stray Feathers, you can make a one time donation and be a supporter, you don't have to do the monthly thing.

byrdste, I hope you stick around, you will not be sorry. regards, yakboomer.

I just hit the 50 post mark. I have more stamps than I know what to do with; the "sad" results of too much buying of several old, multi-album collections in the past 20 or so years. I might be interested in selling some stuff here. I assume there are some selling guidelines posted somewhere, and maybe also an indication of what others are selling. As an aside, don't look for US from me, if I find some time to assemble stuff, which is always a problem. Thanks.

Some good points here but Nitro hit the nail on the head [see quote]. One hears all the time about problems with auction sites with both sellers and buyers. We often see them posted here.
Selling on a forum like this one cuts down to [almost] zero, the chances of bad things happening during buying and selling. It is very unlikely that a member who has donated and hangs around to reach 50 posts is doing it for the purpose of cheating. I don't recall it ever happening.
As one of the biggest sellers here, I have never had anything but wonderful experiences. For that I am grateful to the owners and Admin and making some donations auctions is not only a necessity, but a pleasure.
I nearly always have items that I don't need because once I have finished with collecting a country/topic/whatever, it goes. I generally don't keep what I will not add to. So offering them to others here is not only convenient, but also safe AND fun. Ask anyone who purchased from me in 2012 !

I would highly recommend it.

Londonbus1.....anyone for a Mystery auction ?

You see, once you build up a forum clientele, you get bids even before the auction is posted !

Londonbus1....who needs ebay ?

The rules are fairly simple:

Also, here are a couple threads with some helpful suggestions:
