Hello Everyone,

Two questions:
1) Do you feel it's better to sell a country's collection through a dealer's auction or on ebay? The advantage to selling via a dealer is that they can sort out any high values that might be in there that I don't know about and they're likely to get a higher price for the lot through their auction versus ebay. The advantage to ebay is that, while there's a fee, it's not as high as a dealer's, but then I run the risk of selling a country's lot for .99 that has a high value in it that I don't know about! What are you thoughts? (P.S. I don't have the time to look up Scott values for each stamp)
2) When it comes to U.S. mint postage with no significant Sc. value, should I just use them for postage? I'm getting the impression that selling them via ebay is not a good route to go b/c often selling them as a lot gets you less than they offer in face value and selling them individually is too much trouble, plus there's no guarantee they'll even sell. What do you do with any mint U.S. you don't use as part of your collection?

Thanks!!

This sort of negates the whole question. And a country collection sells for 99c only if you set the opening bid at 99c. Listing fees are so low that it's a false economy to set start bids at 99c and hope for the best. It's the selling fees that are high.

too many variables to answer your first question, but to your second question, yes, go ahead and use them for postage as there are few that are worth any premium and you will get less than face selling them on ebay (after fees, you'll likely net 60 to 70 % of face on ebay).

Yeah, it sounds like most mint singles are better to use to just dress up your envelopes! Thanks!
