Hi, I find myself with about 800 duplicate US stamps - all mint - with dates ranging from the late 1800s thru the 1950s. Most of them are from the mid 20s thru late 40s.
They are currently stored is glassine envelopes based upon a very general date range (i.e. 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s etc.).
I guess this is an OK way to sort them, but I am not satisfied. So, my question is, how do you sort your dups, and of course store them.
Thank you! Mobilman44

Mobilman,
I use the stock book and glassine method as well. I haven't really sorted them out or put them in any logical order yet. Maybe by year with Scott numbers or by Scott numbers alone? I know it's something that I must do for my own collections. |

I use manila stock pages. I can write the catalog number on them in light pencil and reuse them. |

I use Stock Pages.
I organize them by year only, unless I need to specify the scott number because of watermark or other reason.
I put little pieces of paper in the slot with the year, and then put all of my dups for that country/year in order

I'm not very organized so mine are everywhere. I do like some of the ideas here though. |

All my duplicates and some of my unmounted country collections live in glassines in heavy-duty 2-piece postcard boxes. I have 72 for stamps and 26 for covers. Here's a photo of about half of the stamps. The object at upper left, hanging from a loop, is a genuine Swiss cowbell - my burglar alarm. |

I put them in glassines without noting what they are. That way, a few weeks later I forget what they are and look them up all over again. It's taking more time to do that for some strange reason. |

It depends. My Norwegian duplicates are somewhat organized (at least some of them, but I don't see the point in organizing common duplicates to perfection ). I also have duplicates from Jersey, Guernsey, Canada and Australia decently organized, and I have a stockbook in which I place duplicates to make it easier to trade with them. Other than that, chaos really. |

Duplicates get stored in glassines, waiting to be listed on ebay or Delcampe auction sites. That's the best way I've found to keep duplicates under control. It also helps fund purchase of new material. |

Hi, Thanks for all the ideas and comments. Obviously I'm not alone in drowning in dups.
I'm not sure what I'll do, but its likely to be stock sheets or glassine envelopes or a combo of both (most likely).

I purchased these 'boxes' at Staples - they have the clip in them to hold your glassines forward until the box is full. That's where my dups are stored. (Now if I can just figure out how to get the photo here...) |
