Here's an interesting collection of German cancels. Stamp on the top one is gone but still an nice looking postmark.
Maybe some of you experts can enlighten us.

A couple of these looked like they had been cut out of very interesting postcards. Shame, but what are you going to do?

I can look them all up for you. Can you post larger pics of each?

I collect picture postcards of East Prussia and some of them have nice postmarks too. Mine looks more like an advertisement.

jamesw,

The first is from 1954, which is outside my collecting area, so I don't have any literature to help with the details. Just judging by the text, it's from the 1954 International Film Festival in Berlin.

The second is a Berlin cancel used from 29 April to 20 June 1937. It commemorates the "Gebt mir 4 Jahre Zeit Ausstellung" (Give Me 4 Years Exhibition) held at the Berling Funkturm (Berlin Radio Tower). It catalogs in Bochmann as Berlin #221.

The third is a cachet used at 37 locations throughout Germany from 15 December 1942 until 1944. It reads "Frauen und Mädel - / meldet Euch zur / Mitarbeit bei der Reichspost! / Sie verbindet Front und Heimat / Auskunft bei allen Postämtern" (Women and girls, to keep in touch, use the Reichspost! It connects front and home. Information at all post offices). Catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #397.

The fourth is a cachet used at 29 locations throughout Germany from 5 June to 2 September 1940. It reads "Kriegs- / Hilfswerk / Opfere / auch Du! / für das Deutsches Rote Kreuz" (War Relief / You Sacrifice Too! / For the German Red Cross). Catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #358.

The fifth is a cancel used in Berlin from 17 February to 7 March 1938, to commemorate the International Auto and Motorcycle Exhibition. It reads "Int. Automobil- u. Motorrad - Ausstllg. / 18.Feb.-6.März 1938" (International Automobile and Motorcycle Exhibition). It catalogs in Bochmann as Berlin #S258.

The sixth is also outside my collecting area, and the text is too small for me to take a stab at it.

Prahanoaki,

Yours are as follows, from left-to-right, top-to-bottom.

The first one is a cachet used in 39 locations throughout Germany from 22 Feb 1930 until 1944, then again for a brief period in 1950. It reads "Werdet Rundfunkteilnehmer" (Become a radio listener). Catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #103.

The second is a cachet used at 36 locations throughout Germany from 3 July to 12 December 1944. It reads "Jagdflieger / das / Gebot der Stunde" (Fighter, the order of the hour). It catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #419.

The third is a cachet used at 82 locations throughout Germany from 25 January to 8 March 1938, to commemorate the International Fair in Leipzig, 6-14 March 1938. It reads "Internationale / Leipziger Messe" (International Fair in Leipzig). It catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #271.

The fourth was used from 21 May to 4 June 1938 at 72 locations throughout Germany to commemorate Deutschlandflug 1938, an air festival. It reads "Das NS-Fliegerkorps / fliegt für / Großdeutschland / und seinen Führer / Deutschlandflug 1938 / 22.-29. Mai" (The Nazi Air Corps flies for Greater Germany and its Führer / Germany in Flight 1938). It catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #288.

The fifth was used from 4 September 1930 to 1944, and again in 1947, at 127 locations throughout Germany. It reads "Rechtzeitig / Postreisescheck / besorgen!" (Get a postal traveler's check in time!). It catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #111.

The sixth was used in Königsberg in 1935 to commemorate the Deutsche Ostmesse Königsberg (German East Fair in Königsberg). It reads "Besucht die deutsche / Ostmesse / Königsberg / P / R / 18.-21.Aug.1935" (Visited the German East Fair in Königsberg, 18-21 August 1935). It catalogs in Bochmann as Königsberg #17.

The seventh was used at Elbing, Königsberg, and Tilsit from 5 July to 11 August 1937, to commemorate the 1937 Deutsche Ostmesse in Königsberg. It catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #265.

The eighth was used at 19 locations throughout Germany rfom 17 June 1937 to 1943, then again in 1947-48. It reads "Unversiegelte / Wertpakete / bis 500 RM / Volle Haftung / für 10 Rpf." (Fully insure packages up to 500 RM for 10 Rpf.) It catalogs in Bochmann as Serienstempel #263.

Prahanoaki,

I snagged copies of your photos so the group can follow along.

This cancel was used in Memel on 20 April 1939 to commemorate Hitler's 50th Birthday. It reads "50. Geburtstag des / Führers / Deutsch das Memelland / 20.4.1939" (50th Birthday of the Führer - Germans of Memel - 20 April 1939). It catalogs in Bochmann as memel #1.

OK. The last one is a cancel from Bad Lippspringe, which is a German spa town (Bad is the German word for spa or bath). The hot baths are supposed to be good for ailments, including those mentioned in the cancel -- asthma, respiratory problems, and allergies. This is a common theme in German cancels, since they have a lot of spa towns.

Brilliant information Postmaster, thanks.
These are outside my collecting sphere, but I'm trying to decide whether to keep them or not.
I'm wondering (out loud ) if there would be any interest out there in SCF land for these on auction or sale.
Feedback?

stallzer,

That cancel was used in München (Munich) on 26 July 1942 to commemorate the 1942 Brown Ribbon, an annual horse race. Of note, the stamp was issued to commemorate the same. It catalogs in Bochmann as München #178.

Also, the addressee is Heinrich Köhler, a famous German philatelist and proprietor of one of the largest philatelic auctionhouses in Germany.
