Hello:

Does anyone have a listing of what Scott number stamps are on what page in the USA album.?
If such a thing does not exist I would be willing to create such a list if someone or a few people would be willing to proof check it for accuracy.
My idea was to create such a list using the fonts (Optima and Helvetica Neue) kindly recommended by Larry on Lighthouse header pages. Preliminary tests show that I can get the information from approximately 10 Lighthouse album pages unto 1 page. In other words a complete USA listing would take approximately 50 pages. One column would be the lighthouse page number while the other column would be the lighthouse page stamp position. Two on the first line, 4 on the second, etc., etc. One would be able to check off the items one has.
It would be something that would seamlessly fit. For my purposes I would use a separate album, probably a 13 ring binder.
I like this idea because it's something that would take a reasonable amount of time but is somewhat useless in the grand scheme of things...
I would be interested in any ideas, suggestions or comments (good or bad) on this idea. Anything from "Great idea" to "drink the Kool-Aide Ron".
Kind Regards,

Ron

Ron,

Why do you want this?

I have the preprinted Lighthouse US pages and the only time I felt the need to figure out which stamp shown is which is for the Washington Franklins. Otherwise, I have not felt the need, understanding I don't do much at all in 19th century US material.

Also, being German, I suspect Lighthouse probably follows a Michel rather than Scott order and in any event, they do not explicitly show either because doing so would violate copy write law.

But, why would you want the cross index? The stamps are usually reasonable well described on the album pages.

Larry

Hi Ron,

I believe someone once attempted to construct and distribute, or market, a cross reference of Scott, SG, and other catalogue producers' stamp numbers but were prevented from doing so by the threat of action under copyright law. Personally I thought such a cross reference could only benefit all the catalogue producers, as well as their customers, but the publishers thought differently. Tread carefully.

The dreaded resurrection of an ancient thread....in a related question, does anyone have an informal, not for sale, version of a Scott to SG cross reference sheet? I am only interested in the classics era so that would limit the size needed. I have searched enough to know that http://gbstamps.co.uk lists both in their online sales catalogue, but that is a little time consuming to be referencing if someone has already accomplished this. Contact me by PM if that is appropriate. Thanks. John

Dear Ron500E, I just joined this forum and saw your message. I too have a Lighthouse USA Album (1847-1964) and have many US stamps in my collection that are between 1847-1930, including different varieties of Washingtons and Franklins. Since Lighthouse does not always order the stamps according to Scott numbers, it is not always easy to know which stamp goes where. (It is almost trivial after 1932 since there is little or no confusion.) I made myself a list of Scott numbers by page for my own reference to make things easier on myself, but am still unsure of some stamps, e.g., there is a 1931 9-cent orange stamp on page 32 that I could not locate in Scott (there is a 1932 9-cent orange stamp but that belongs to a coil pair and is listed separately on page 33CP). So I completely understand your frustration and would be most willing to proofread your Scott assignments, or could even share my assignments with you. Let me know if you are still interested.
