Plane of focus is only 0.5" in front of lenses. And there are several posts about eyestrain after using for even short periods. A hand lens is fine for me. But for hands free work I use a model makers stand magnifier. Terry  |

Any 20X will have a very short plane of focus. I ocasionally use a combination 20X and it has to be held about 1/2 inch away as well. It allows me to focus on an area the width of about two perfs clearly. |

I hope the 'alligator' clips are not used on the stamp but a card holder! (I know TC knows better but there are people out there.. just saying)  |

Seriously. Piece of black card with narrow strip of card glued to bottm edge, Card placed between clips. Stamp placed on card and retained by bottom strip. Both hands free.
