I have a 1891 one pound queen Victoria stamp and I and trying to figure out its value. The corner letters are c and e I don't know what they stand for or if they affect the value. The only infomation I have on it is its a #124, I think its from 1891 and "SC 350 or 358. It has two neat postmarks on it but you can see the picture very good it is in good condition with no rips or stains. Any help with this stamp would be greatly appreciated.

Please post a lighter image right side up so we can study the stamp and the postmark. "C" and "E" are sheet position indicators and do not affect the value unless they help confirm a known variety from that position in the sheet. |

I found some prices from 200 through 600 that all looked about the same that's why I didn't know about the letters or why there was such a range in price |

I'm trying to decide if your stamp has a revenue (i.e., bank or insurance, etc.) cancel, which would greatly reduce the value. |

It's really the only place you're likely to sell it. But if you're new to ebay, I wouldn't start with a several hundred dollar item; sell 10 or 20 lots in the $3 to $10 range and get some experience, and a little positive Feedback. You'll need MUCH better images, and a PayPal account, and perhaps a little guidance in writing your item description. The condition looks pretty decent, but you need to be able to show beyond a doubt that the stamp has a postal cancel, not a revenue cancel. And you'll have to decide whether you will accept bids from overseas, and thus ship overseas; this opens up several more cans of worms. If it were simple, everybody would be doing it... Also, you need to be aware what the Stanley Gibbons (used in Great Britain and much of the rest of the Commonwealth) catalog says, and what Scott doesn't tell you. In 2012, the basic stamp #212 catalogs £800 used; the "frame broken" variety occurs only with corner letters JC or TA, catalog value £2000. Inverted watermark, £12000. So if you rely only on Scott, you may miss valuable varieties; on the other hand, Gibbons is widely known for grossly overpricing many Victorian stamps. If you net 20% of Gibbons, that's equivalent to $240, and within the expected range. The watermark, by the way, is three crowns side by side. |

Nunleyk, you are in luck! If you look at the threads to the left of your question there is a thrad "identifying watermarks" about 6 rows down! I checked it, and it is great!

Quote: I'm trying to decide if your stamp has a revenue (i.e., bank or insurance, etc.) cancel, I agree. Is there a GB fiscal cancel that has the word Revenue in it ? In the 2nd picture of the actual Stamp the only letters I can make out are "NUE" , is that a 97 or upside down L5 ? |

If you mean Revenue cancel then it would detract from the value. In the 1890's 1£ was quite a bit of money for mailing a letter considering the domestic rate at the time was probably 2 pence. So to mail something that cost 1£ it would either be a parcel or special letter (Such as a registered) . Revenue Stamps were used to collect taxes or fees on documents and other items and would have the cancel applied by a private company such as Insurance, Bank, or other.
If it is a Postal cancel then it will bring what the market is willing to pay and a Postal cancel is much more desirable than a Revenue / Fiscal cancel. |

BeeSee, I'm referring to the letters right under the Chin. I do concur that it looks to be registered at the top. |
