It's been a Philatelic Weekend! A successful auction yesterday and today the semi annual Old Book and Paper Show in Toronto.
Got lots of treats, so pardon me while I share.
Here are two sheets of Canadian cinderellas.
The first showing pavilions at Expo 67.

A close up of four of the labels

And a fun sheet from the 1980s showing our then Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and his Finance Minister.
These were printed, I believe, by Firefly Books, a small publisher, to protest the Federal governments plan to tax books. I think they have been shown on the forum before.

Unfortunately this second sheet is somewhat oversized, so I'm not sure how I'm going to store it.

Nice ones James. The GST protest stamps came out in 1989, about a year and a half before the GST was officially adopted (1 January 1991). I'm wondering what the marginal inscription on the right hand side of the sheet says...

Thanks for the info CindyCan2. The sheet is too large for my scanner so the inscriptions were cut off.
Across the top it says "Firefly Books and booksellers across Canada Protest the Proposed tax on reading. Use these stamps to brighten your letters. Protest is important...it works!"
The marginal type at the right that you mention says " Stamp Mgf: Banana Productions"
Along the bottom, each piece of selvage says "Photographs: Courtesy the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister's Office."

Lovely Expo stamps. Thanks for sharing those. I like design stamps.

The tax on books is a bad thing that still goes on, and we expect our kids and young folk, and adults too, to be educated and well read. A bit harder to do that when you add on 15% tax and the duty for cross-border shopping.

Complaining done!
