Since our auctions, etc., have active buyers in Canada, this is useful to know (and another example of USPS deception).

A 1-ounce letter to Canada costs $1.10 and can be paid with the round $1.10 Global Forever stamp.

A 2-ounce letter to Canada ALSO costs $1.10, similar payment, etc.

The bottom line is that after the January 27, 2013, rate increases, the preferential treatment for Canada disappeared, replaced by a minimum $1.10 postage requirement. So it is more important than ever to consolidate shipments, and even if you're only mailing a single stamp, it's still $1.10 postage. And if you add cardboard to protect the stamp, you may make your item non-machinable, and cross over into the "parcel" rate, which is $1.30 for 1 (or 2) ounces.

You can't win.

Yes. The global stamp also eliminated the "preferential treatment" for Mexico which was, if I recall, lower than the old Canadian rate.

Thanks for this...it's too easy to forget that mail to Canada does require extra postage...and the domestic rate will not fly. In the early days of ebay pre-Paypal I had many payments "returned to sender" due to insufficient postage.

Hi to all

You should try posting items from Australia.
If you post an international letter and do not use international airmail stamps, the post office here will try and charge you an extra ten percent.
To post parcels is even worse.
To the USA the post office adds $9.00 to the already huge postage to recover costs that the USA has placed on incoming parcels to check for items under its terrorism laws.
We do not have any cheap international postage, and if you send it snail mail, it can take up to 8 weeks to reach anywhere.
It is time that the Universal Postal Union had a conference to work out set rates of International Postage.
The post offices and government are just profiteering at the expense of the collector and mail user. I can not believe that it costs $9.00 to scan a parcel.

I wish we had snail mail (sea mail) again. Many of my customers would rather wait a few weeks than pay our enormous airmail rates. Six ounce packet to the UK, $12.75, there's an example; but six 1-ounce letters (with 6 times as much handling), only $6.60 for the lot.

The machinable and non-machinable RACKET is the biggest insult that USPS ever "delivered" to its loyal customers.
