Like Kathey I tend to bid on stock pages and bulk lots of stamps..most of which I will not have much use for...i am a packrat..my wife is my opposite number..she buys items appropriate to her collecting interests. Compared to her I am harmless !!

I am a super focused type collector and hate clutter so I bid, buy and put immediately into my books and binders minutes after arrival. I have no heaps and piles or any unknown sorting to be done thankfully- but I still should be more careful about the impulse buying!

I'm new to the hobby and definitely done some impulse buys and now learning my lesson. I will try take I_Love_Stamps approach and put things away as I get them, that way I don't get overwhelmed as I am right now. After I'm finished with my current massive lot, then I can go on and find some better deals.

It is super easy to find myself in a buying frenzy with this hobby.

Since stamps in general are worth very little monetarily speaking (with a few exceptions, of course!) and the fact that it is very hard to re-sell stuff for any kind of decent profit, so I just purchase/bid on exactly what I'm looking for so normally I get very little to NO extras or clutter. I don't have a very large stamp room so even a little clutter can gum up the works very quickly.

I completely agree!

ILS, you hate clutter, huh? I should invite you to my house... I keep hoping I'll have a guest whose OCD kicks in and spurs them to clean up my basement.

I hadn't been on ebay for months. Then I made a little venture here and there over the past couple of days. Eight or night lots later (~$30) I am trying to put the brakes on my activity. It can be quite addicting.

Ummm... yeah.

In the last month I've bought a Scandinavia collection, a British collection, and two Belgium collections... all with the intent of cherrypicking and then flipping... at some point.

Stamp. Gum. That's funny!.

Anyhow, I have been in SBA (Stamp Buyers Anonymous) for over a year now. I buy every stamp I want. I just lie at the meetings. If I can fool them for another year I will get my 2 year gold pin which I will melt into a nugget and sell so I can buy more stamps!

I guess I'm guilty of impulse buying. Its mainly because if I see something I want I then trawl through the rest of the sellers lots and buy or bid on a few more items gaining the 'free' postage on the extra lots. Somehow it feels that I have bought these extra items at a bargain rate. Invariably I buy things I may never have bought individually.

I'm with revenuecollector: I buy because I know I will flip unwanted stamps and make money to buy more stamps I plan on getting very rich this way. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Hey, IBFS, is there a website for SBA? Just in case the above plan doesn't work...

IBFS: Is there a membership fee? Do I get a card with my name to use as a talisman to ward off the urge to buy?
Is this your home address, if so, why do you have three "washrooms"? And isn't behind the water heater too humid/hot for stamps?
I believe everything on the Internet...

The membership fee is one inverted Jenny. This makes for exclusive club membership and funds the small monthly news post-it. You can have a card if you want, but I don't know if it will stop you from buying. I've never tried it. Stamps are not allowed to discourage buying.

...You know, this is only going to get sillier...
