I think I see where the next APS national meeting is in Milwaukee this summer. Never been to one of these but this is more in my neck of the woods and a nice vacation area. What can people tell be about the pros and cons of these events? Are there good topical meetings? Are there good dealer items to be found? Do I have to wear one of those cheesehead hats?

Hi Scouter,

As a member of the Wisconsin Federation of Stamp Clubs' StampShow committee, I promise you that we will NOT make you wear a cheesehead hat. Although, they look mighty Gouda on people.

StampShow will be in Milwaukee August 8-11 and I would highly recommend it. I went to my first StampShow last summer in Sacramento and was blown away by how hug it was. (CHICAGOPEX was the largest show I had been to before that.)

There are many reasons to attend-
1. First day ceremonies
2. More dealers than you will ever have time to visit
3. Society booths
4. Public auctions
5. Excellent speakers on all kinds of subjects (I enjoyed picking out presentations to attend. It was kind of like being in school but getting to choose only the subjects you are interested in.)
6. Last year there were $1 and dime booths (I don't know about this year yet.)
7. Many, many exhibits
8. There are lots of society meetings

The only "con" I can think of is that you will be exhausted by the end of the day because there is so much to do.

The American Topical Association is having a round table meeting on Saturday.

I would suggest checking out the APS website. The dealer list is up. Closer to the time, the schedule will be up and you can start planning how you want to spend your day.

Please let me know if you have any more questions and I would be happy to try to answer them.

I hope to see you there!
