OK, an odd thing happened to me yesterday. I was out and about waiting to pick up my daughter from a school field trip (Shriner circus) and located the local library. I was browsing the stacks and came upon the Scott guides and specialized catalogs. Apparently I was the only one EVER to have checked out that catalog! The catalog is a 2001 and sorely outdated, but the information on the classics is still relevant I'm guessing? But that speaks volumes about stamp collecting interest in the community...

BTW I'm buying a new specialized catalog this coming month. I don't know how on earth I ever collected this long without this majestic book!

I live in a small Wisconsin village (2500 population), but we have a great library system. I check out the most current Scott Catalog, as needed. Sometimes all the copies are out and I have to wait! So, somewhere in my community/county (120,000 population) there are stamp collectors. I wish I could find them. There use to be a stamp club in "the city" but it disbanded a few years ago.
Oh, did I already mention that I am a retired senior librarian? I love my libraries!

Kathy, How about putting a note or a stamp or so inside the book?
(A slip of paper of course...lol)

I already have two, and they were all I needed.

The "Stamp Values Specialized by Grade" for U.S. stamps no longer exists on it's own. This book used to cost less than $20.00. The Scott Specialized costs $80.00 or a little less if you get a deal.

The evil genius of Scott was to discontinue the "Stamp Values Specialized by Grade" for U.S. stamps and put it in the Scott Specialized to force us to buy it if we wanted the "Specialized by Grade". I have refrained from buying one because of my stubborn angry and rebellious attitude against Scott for doing this.

Well OK, yesterday I @#?$% bought one of the &?$%#@ things just for the "Specialized by Grade" part for the classics. I #?$$$$$$%& gave into Scott and their evil tactics and hope they're #%$@& happy.

what's all the "cancellation" listings after each stamp mean? I haven't had much time to look through it much yet.

May I suggest getting the Scott catalog for your iPad/iPhone? It comes in handy when going to stamp shows/dealers and you have the information at your fingertips to make judgement calls on potential buys.

Cancellation listings. They list the extra catalogue value tacked onto a stamp if it has a particular type of cancel. ie different colour ink, PAID, steamship cancel etc. So if your lovely Jefferson 5˘ icon were a used #76 brown with a green cancel, you would add $750 to the catalogue price.
