I've been going through some envelopes of stuff trying to id things and place them in my BIG BLUES. While going through a group of Bavarian stamps I noticed the 2 50pf (Scott #262) stamps in the top row below. Both the album and catalog lists this stamp as vermillion, which I assumed was the one on the left. The one next to it almost looks carmine, which can be seen in comparison to the 15pf on the right, which is suppose to be carmine. Am I missing another entry in Scott's somewhere? Is this another case where Scott's does not list color varieties? Is it even a color variety or is it just that the one on the left is faded?

Also, the stamps on the bottom row I assumed (I do that a lot) were Bavarian, but I cannot find them in the Scott catalog or in the album. What are they?

The bottom ones are Bavarian State Railway (Eisenbahn) stamps. Mint ones are very common as many were sold off to dealers. Used ones are like hens teeth!

Michel lists the 50 Pf as dark cinnamon, and notes that there are multiple shades. I suspect one of yours has been slightly discolored through some means.

The railway stamps would be listed in Erler, which catalogs German revenues. I'll post the listings when I get back to my catalogs.

Oh boy, thank you for the catalog image! I can make an album page for them now.

I was afraid that might be the case on the other one though, and Scott catalog doesn't help either.

Regarding the first two 50pf stamps, the one to the right is vermillion. The one to the left is faded (due to sun or chemical exposure).

smaugie - Thanks! I just didn't have any others to compare them to, so wasn't sure.
