Say you had an certified Inverted Jenny and wanted to sell that stamp. How would you go about selling it. What steps would you take and where would you go to to sell it?

Back up for a minute-------There are only three firms that I trust to handle the inverted Jenny .....trust means they have clients who are standing in line to buy that level .They also have the marketing reach to handle a high price item. You also want to consign it with a lower fee than their normal rate ,also tell them you want your stamp on the cover of the auction catalog. Also be sure you have a minium opening bid or a reserve because you don't want to give it away .

Siegel or Cherrystone, both in New York,NY. David Feldman in Europe is also very good. If you have US, go to Siegel. Siegel does not perform well with foreign raritie.

I must have missed the part about how to go about it and just left the short answer. Floortrader is right. If in fact you have something that rare negotiating the fees and advertising such an item would be key. Most auction houses would kill to have something like that. It builds their prestige and cements their relationships with the buyers. Lower fees could be had by letting them wrap other nice but more mundane items in the same auction. They would hope to have higher sales and prices by the throngs that would want to see and/or bid on the centerpiece. They are cagey people to work with. Have all of your questions and requests in writing.

Reputable dealer or an accredited auction house.
*sigh* I don't.. so, I cant. Come to think of it?- even if I did, I wouldn't.

This is reminiscent of a relatively recent thread is it not?

A Fantasy thread !
Cool.

So I will do the same.
As I could never nor will never afford anything remotely approaching an Inverted Jenny, let us assume for this little bit of fun that I inherited or was given some expensive stamps.

So far so good.
As I never paid for them, and as I'm a nice guy and want others to enjoy the hobby after me, then I would try to sell them to people I know......our own SCF for instance.
I would do this because selling to friends at a good price and not an inflated one, and because they did not cost me much to begin with, there are no losers.
Also there are no fees, no waiting for payments, no nail-biting auctions, no disappopintments and no hassle. Just some friendly interaction with fellow collectors you know and trust.
Actually, no problems at all. I win because I make a bit of money and feel good and the buyers [friends] buy some good stamps at a price they couldn't get anywhere else.

But am I living in a fantasy world ?
You may say yes, I am.
But all those who purchased items from me during 2012 both here and on other forums might disagree.
