Duplex Hand Cancels - How High Did They Go?

My "junk" box has given me hours of fun. Here are some of the Duplex Killer Cancels, showing the number. So, I have two questions:

How High a number did they print? I have found many, many number 1's, several 2's, then they seem to decrease rapidly with increasing numbers. Here, I have a 26 and two different 30's.



I also wonder how difficult it is to tell the "6" from the "9".

I've found them as high as "97":



Typically, the higher numbers were usually identified with larger post offices. I suspect a high number such as the "97" shown above was probably used by the Postmaster or one of his assistants rather than in the process of general mail.

Here are some additional duplex letters and numbers ... as high as "42" in this series:



In fact, New York was known for several duplex cancels that had the station name in the "killer" part of the cancel such as "MAD SQ" for Madison Square Station and "TIMES SQ" for Times Square Station, and even "CHURCH" for Church Street Station, etc.:
