I thought that an interesting thread may be the normal, everyday stamps that require a second look. In this case, at first pull from the bin box, I distinctly saw an inverted 4 in the bottom left corner. Of course, it is just the cancellation playing tricks with my eyes, but it did cause me to "look twice".

Any more interesting examples out there?

I've posted this before, but it's been a few years. Looks like Adolph got putsched in the face in a beer hall fight. Someone with a nice left hook...

Here's another. The left stamp is a mint Hemingway, while the right is lightly cancelled. The height of the right stamp is noticeably shorter and really threw me for a few minutes.

I then "looked twice" and noticed that the bottom of the right stamp was actually folded up, creating quite the illusion.

A little too much beer with my brats today ...

Cjd,

It's a shame that cancel's not a little darker, cause that's a nice one.

It's a Berlin cancel from 1941. The text reads "Märchentheater / Prinzessin / Huschewind / Küstriner / Platz". It's an advertisement for a performance of "Prinzessin Huschwind" at the Märchentheater in Küstriner Platz, Berlin.

Here's an example of the complete cancel.

I don't know. Lightly blew on it to see if lint, and didn't move, so part of the design. Definitely the same color as the rest of the design. I don't have a comparison copy, so didn't notice anything special about it.

I found a second copy. Same thing on that one. Guess he didn't know how to trim the mustache ...

was trimming some bells last night while watching TV ... came across this "burning bell" ... not sure what's going on here, probably some sort of bleach ... (regular bell for comparison)

Could this be an EFO? Most of the detail on the wood block above the bell is missing. In addition to the light color.

Here's a recent finding in my kiloware. I can't quite see the year in the cancel ... 1900, probably, but quite skewed.

Partime, that's how the cancels were in those days - only 2 digits. They only switched to 4 digits sometime early in the 20th century. So yes, it is 1900.

Incidentally that's a nice CDS cancellation. I actually live in this town - St. Catharines, Ontario - about 10 minutes from Niagara Falls.
