Here's another date cancel that didn't make sense at first. The year is 8961? Pretty neat, but flip it and you get the correct year of 1968.

Partime, here's the complete postmark from your earlier post. Gotta wonder who signed off on this one.

Here's a newer US "E" stamp that appears to have an extra star in the sky.

Normal Stamp:

And the extra star (circled):

Speaking of optical illusions. What were they thinking of?

I thought the whole point was that Ms Austen was so straight-forward for her time.

Here's a US Air Mail with the illusion of an extra propeller, due to ink smudges throughout.

Parttime........a "domestic" stamp that illustrates the globe. Now that's not only weird - but inappropriate.

Well, this appeared in Punch about 30 years ago:

The text is rather small but reads "We like the plot, Miss Austen, but all this effing and blinding will have to go."

My Avatar. The hand cancel is so clean that I had to look closer to see that it was actually done by hand. Here you can see it much more clearer than at it's actual size.

I believe that this is a generic "Liberty", but I am sure some of our experts will come up with a better answer.

Here are a simple pair of Malta Scott 19a stamps ... probably brown and red-brown respectively. The right stamp has quite a few diagonal lines from a poorly wiped plate, but what made me look twice was the effect of the cancel on the "e" in "one". It was changed into a little hook.

Quite appropriate for a Harbor scene, don't you think?

Re upper stamp: My first thought was 'adding machine' but, on second glance, one supposes it is a teletype device.

Cheers,
