Hi, Today I will finish the initial loading of a rather nice Big Blue Part 1 (1840-1940) album. I've also inserted glassine interleaves wherever needed. The result is a rather bulging album, and its obvious that some time in the future something will need to be done.
Assuming I will keep using the two hole International pages, should I get another Part 1 binder and split the collection (i.e. A-L, M-Z), or pick up a couple of 3 inch blue binders, or ???
What have you all done when you have run out of room?
Thank you, Mobilman44
PS: I will begin the initial load of a Part 2 next week..........

I would likely get another Big Blue alblum. I would want vol. 1 and 2 to match rather than having a nice big alblum flanked by some binders. |

I don't use the Big Blue (or even collect worldwide), but I don't think using the "system" requires you hold it to the single volume.
If it were me (and just because I'm a tad anal-retentive), I would go with your plan to find another Part 1 binder and split. They'll complement each other on the shelf.

I agree with all of these gentlemen. But lets take it one step further. Are you going to continue collecting after you have acquired another binder, whatever it is? Do you think as time goes by you may end up with 3,4 5 or more binders? I'd stick with the ones you like. I have never worked with "Big Blue" but I'm willing to bet you would love to see your collection look like the one pictured by Floortrader the other day. I keep my albums numbered to make it easier to find the country I wish to see or work on. As with all of our collections the support systems evolve many times over the years and I'm sure mine with change again. This is what becomes of years of collecting and much, much work. I just received 4 new Minkus albums the other day as I have much more to catch up. But I am quite certain I will need more later! |

I would go with another binder. In fact, the '97 edition, which is more spread out and on thicker paper, comes as IA1,IA2,IB1,IB2 subsets, and with interleaving, could actually be put in four binders. ;-) |

Wow! Thanks for sharing! |

I almost hate to say it but that's only one view of it. The entire room looks like that. I can barely move in there. I have been thinking of starting another collection. I like the idea of topical but I don't what to stop my country collection. So I think I may use some of my, and there are many, duplicates. Time will tell, I have plenty to keep me busy. |

I agree with all that has been said. I don't think you can keep an interleaved Volume 1 in a single binder without pages tearing out, etc, as it becomes full. For what it is worth, I split mine A-I, J-Z. I do use the jumbo binders but am becoming more convinced that the smaller binders would be less likely to split. |

Hi! Thank you all for the advice and counsel. It is appreciated
Coincidently, after I wrote the original post, I came across a deal for a "like new" Part 1 album. I will let you know how that works out.

Hi again, Just won an ebay auction for a "new" Big Blue Part 1, which means I'll be able to expand into the second Part 1 binder. Amazing how things work out. |

When you see collections like flyinlo's, know that there are people who have completed the Blue Volume One, have spent time surfing the great online collections like those of Antonius Ra and Dr. Cheng Chang, and realized that the 99% complete worldwide collection 1840-2010 offered by Harmer-Schau proves that those who think it isn't possible to collect the world have seriously underestimated how possible it is for collectors to literally have it all. |

I would like to see a Big Blue binder. I really don't know what it is. I have seen those Minkus binders. Minkus has a two-post rectangular-hole binding system. Is the Big Blue compatible to the Minkus system? Or, are the page holes round? Someone please educate me. |
