Zuzu- current resident of NE since 1973, from Iowa originally. I located this movie on my library's website and have a reserve on it.

Actually a few of the Farleys are starting to have catalog values as high as $60-$80 for some varieties. None are scarce, but they have always been pretty popular.

But where is the collection now?

After FDR died, his collection was broken up into many many pieces. Very occasionally intact pages from his albums come up for sale. When broken up most of the pages were rubber stamped "from the collection of Franklin Delano Roosevelt", or something like that.

I've got a piece from FDR's collection- a FDC of the 1933 Century of Progress set addressed to him at the White House and rubber stamped as from his collection. Gives me a tingle just to look at it.

Excerpted from the National Postal Museum's website:

Quote:
In 1946, following FDR's death, his family sold his philatelic estate through Harmer Auction. The four FDR stamp sales brought high prices and controversy. Most philatelists wanted to own a piece of the nation's most famous stamp collection, but some argued that the U.S. government actually owned the fabulous holdings of U.S. essays and proofs. Winning bidders in Harmer's FDR auctions could have their purchases marked with a rubber stamp to verify that they came from the president's collection. Stamp dealers bought many large lots of common stamps and mounted them on cards for sale as inexpensive souvenirs. Today, collectors still eagerly seek these ex-FDR philatelic items for their own collections.

The one proof I bought came with a COA that it was from his collection. It looked easity faked so I tossed it and kept the proof. lol There wasn't even a signature or at least a watermark on the COA it was a forgery almost certainly.

Kathey, I am pretty sure Anthony Musso can send you an autographed copy for 15 dollars and shipping..the book was printed by Stefano Press which is probably a small or private printing. One our stamp club members brought Anthony to our meeting for a show and tell slide presentation about FDR and several of us purchased his book..it was very entertaining. If you can not contact him, I will see what I can do. phil

It looks like you can get a copy form his web site...

I think it went up for auction thru H.R.Harmers

There have been a few foreign covers listed on ebay which are supposed to be from the Harmers auction. And the prices don't seem too bad if they really were in FDRs collection.

Resurrecting this thread as I just last night watched 'Hyde Park on the Hudson'.
It was a good movie, Bill Murray was great as FDR although Roosevelt is a tough character to do- his personality is so well known that no actor can quite come up to the original. My wife felt something of an aversion to the FDR character- he was manipulative and selfish in her opinion.
Philatelically, my comment was that I have a far better stamp collection than the one depicted in the movie.
