I bet I've just missed it somewhere, but is this stamp listed in Scott, or is it a local overprint?

If not in Scott, any idea about catalog value? (I'm guessing minimal ...)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

This set is listed in SG under Yugoslavia for use in Slovenia. They were issued in Maribor in 1945. This one is SG R94 ("R" for Regional in this case) and is priced at 50p mint in my 2009 catalogue.

This overprint appears in the Michel Specialized, but not on Hitler stamps, which makes me think these are bogus. Michel shows overprints on 16 different pictorials of April 1945 issued by "Provinz Laibach," but does not price them, page 668 in the 1997 edition.

There were immense numbers of Hitler heads confiscated or "liberated" at the end of the war, and you see all kinds of concoctions on them. In 1945, of course, not even expert German philatelists knew what was legitimate and what wasn't.

Nigel: Great to see you again! Thanks very much for this help!

Doug: Thanks also for looking this up! Very much appreciated! Was it the Michel Specialized for Germany? (I'm only aware of specialized volumes for Germany and Austria, or have they issued other country specialized volumes?) I have some of the regional Michel's, but don't seem to have the volume that covers Yugoslavia.

Thanks to you both, and in advance to any additional contributions that may come in.

-- Dave

Hi Dave and Doug,

These stamps also appear in Michel under Jugoslawien - Ausgaben der einzelnen Volksrepubliken - Slowenien at the end of the Yugoslavia listings in my old Michel Europa-Katalog West 1998/99 (A-L).

Nigel: Thanks for that! Quite serendipitously, I (almost literally) stumbled upon my old 2-volume set of Michel Europa West from 1997, and with your last post, was able to zero in on the listings. Some of the others in that set carry some nice catalog values, but, predictably, mine was listed at DM 0.50!

But at least, thanks to both you and Doug, and I know now what it is.

¡Gracias!
