This is page 6 from my Newfoundland album, and I probably should have posted it with page 5 from yesterday as they are sort of from the same issuance period. But these are often presented separate, because I believe they are a big favorite of many collectors: The Newfie dogs.

Also, a 10 cent schooner (many of which have a defect in "CE")

And the lovely Queen Victoria in 1890 (#60--which will later appear with a surcharge on "One Cent".) Note that on the #60, I have managed to round up all 5 of the Unitrade colors (Slate, Grey Lilac, Brown Lilac, Lilac and Slate Violet)--and 60i (on red tinted paper). Check them out and if you have a color wheel or the like, I used an old style Gibbons paper key.

But in the close up, I need help because I have also found 3 others that seem different shades than the others. Anyone have a clue or am I just imagining a rarity where none exists or just fading of old age. (time to look in the mirror)

Enjoy

Tommy, what catalogue do you use with your Newfoundland collection? Do you use Walsh's Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue or do you stick with the Unitrade?

I like that Walsh's has even more information, but the copies I've found are quite pricy especially considering it is two volumes. I am trying to decide if it's worth the investment or whether the Unitrade will fill my needs for a bit longer.

therealwesty,

Thanks, I much prefer dogs to cats!

I do have the Unitrade and use it, as the numbering is consistent with Scott; and it is the defacto source for Newfoundland (and Canada to I believe).

However, I only collect Newfoundland and Walsh's NSSC is by far and away the requirement in my opinion. I only have the first volume (because the 2nd is not for Newfies). The NSSC is far far deeper than Unitrade and honestly allows me the inside information to get better deals or the like by knowing more. For example, I bought a cover that Unitrade had listed at $5 (but it had a rare cancel which was worth $75 to $90). The NSSC is also broader and overlaps with the Air Mails of Canada book and Ludlows RPO book. It has details on: all FFC, Postage Paid Cancels, Slogan Cancels, Perfins, Military cancels, Post Offices (ever single one), RPOs, cancel types and a huge section listing every known Biz Covers.

Definitely worth ever penny.
