Here are some pages from my Newfoundland collection, now the airmails.
Missing only the ones which requires the Lottery (ie, C1, C4, C5).

Otherwise, I've also got a lot of the varieties (C3 d,f,h etc)

Today, I just acquired C13iii (a rare perf variety) and C12i (slanting surcharge)

Enjoy. I welcome any comments or observations.

Tomorrow, I'll post all these stamps on covers, which in some ways puts their context above the aesthetic.

I note that you have two of the 'Wayzata' airmails on your page. Is there a known variety?

The Newfoundland airmail overprints are all pricey, have you come across many fakes?

Wow another wonderful spread! I've only got a few of the Newfie airmails yet, so I am in total awe of you collection.

Thanks to the nice and humorous comments. Humbly, my collection is only the product of 30 years of focusing only on one country (rather than running all around the supermarket of the stamp world). I'm sort of shy and continuing to hesitate about sharing my images because no one else seems to do so. Having said that I will keep showing it off until I'm done or someone says to knock off.

Responses to the above queries:
1. There are no known variants to the Wayzata airmail, I just have two singles that I happen to have picked up along the way. Sometimes, I will buy a collection of Newfoundland stamps of say 100-200 stamps, just to pick out 1 or 2 better stamps. I'm always upgrading and comparing and trying to "knock off" my best centered and NH stamp with a new one. Its fun. For example, the C3b above is rare and nice but Used...so its prime target for a mint version. Then this puppy will go into my backup stock album (which currently has about 1,000 Newfoundland stamps).
2.Yes, the airmails are pricey and I am lucky that my means allow this. But yes, there are many forgeries, so my approach is to never buy one from anyone that is not an established auction house. Those outfits (Eastern or Vance) in my opinion are trustworthy and can't survive by passing on fakes. They also will accept returns, which I have done from time to time, when something looks funny. Also, I usually get a certification at the time for an expensive one or one known to be forged. Like the C18 Balbo stamp above.

Cheers,

Great collection Tommy

I still have a long way to go with my Newfoundland airmails. I do have a few but nothing close to complete.

tommy, I was looking at your C3 group, and was wondering what catalogue are you using to ID the C3d? My scott and unitrade only show C3 and a, b, c. I am looking at a stamp that appears to be a C3d to buy. thanks, yakboomer.

A ha, I see. Happy to chime in with what I know:

I use both Unitrade Specialized Canada 2011

and the far better Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue 7th Edition (Walsh and Butt)

I've scanned the relevant pages for you (so you owe me a beer now); apologies for the pencil markings.

Also, I have attached the three variants from my collection (these are my best, I have a few others. But this is the C3d. For your reference, I paid $250 for it from Eastern mail auction and it was listed by them as VLH and F-VF and I concur.
This variant has the 2 3/4 mm spacing, no period and the "1921" is shifted right.

hope this helps in some way

thanks tommy, I would love to share a beer with you, we live only 1250 miles apart (more or less) so who knows? I really appreciate your knowledge and help with Newfoundland airmails. I will look for the Walsh and Butt catalogue.

Coriandre, buying that would take care of my stamp collecting budget for the next 100 years or so. That would make me 170! I wonder if a best offer of $50 would interest the seller??
