Rare Austria Newspaper Stamp 1856! $$$$$? Red Mercury

heres my story,

Yesterday I was investigating some Austrian stamps. I
I came across some newspaper stamps and looked them up and catawiki (link below)
Catawiki estimated that the value to be in the 5 figure range. Have a look for yourself.

I found the extremely rare 1856 Red Mercury Newspaper stamp . There was estimated only 120,000 made and were rarely used. Today there are only few around. I believe this stamp has no kind of forgery because the collector that own the book has not opened the book since the 1940s or 1950s. The technology to conduct forgery on stamps I feel had not developed well or even at all. But that is my opinion maybe the stamp community knows otherwise.

I really think I found a historical treasure and would like to know your thoughts....

This stamp like I said was found yesterday so it has not been authenticated but we are working on it.

Are there any stamp specialist that know there austrian stamps that can help me ??

There are several people here that know their Austrian stamps. Please post a scan.

For what it is worth, the forging of stamps was alive and well in the nineteenth century.

I believe that , but I just want to add that this stamp album has not been opened or touched for at least 50 to 70 years. I tried uploading a photo but there was an error each time......

As noted by the others, please post a decent resolution scan of the stamp only (no camera/phone pics showing a tiny stamp on a large desk, please). This stamp has been forged more than once over the decades, even as recently as the 1980s.

There is a tutorial for uploading photos, but first and foremost, make sure it is a jpeg file with no spaces and no special characters in the name, and that it is under 100kb in size. You can use the optimizer feature, if need be, to resize it.

The main spotting features are not especially tricky, so the forum file-size limits should still allow for plenty of resolution.

What is the error message? The upload picture cannot exceed 100k. You can use a simple graphics program to reduce the size, or use an image hosting site and link to the picture.

It could have gone right in the followup post. Or you could have edited the original post. Either way, here is what I said in the other topic:

Don't take my word for it, but the helmet shading, the background, the lines of the tunic and the dot rather than a dash in the top tablet all say forgery to me.

Sorry, yours is a typical forgery. Here is a genuine Red Mercury for comparison. The most obvious difference is the lack of an umlaut over the A in "stampel".

I wish I had a better scan of the first-choice forgery offered by Fournier...here it is:



It is a poor scan, but good enough to show that yours is not it. Fournier also offered the Spiro as a second-choice forgery, and Spiro shares the dot with yours, but not exactly the tunic features.

Thoughts, anyone? Am I out in left field?

Margins are way too big, especially the right/left margins (which were much smaller than the top/bottom margins). Does not appear to be a reprint, as the "G" has a crossbar; the reprints were all Type I (i.e., no crossbar). So I conclude that it is a forgery, although I don't have the reference books to tell you which forgery. My non-expert opinion.
