So here is the project I've been working on, completely rebinding an old Scott Specialty binder.
I got an old beat up binder on ebay and just ripped it apart so all I had to work off of was the metal spine.
First I wanted to try and remedy a problem I've noticed on most old Scott binders, and that is the edge of the spine ripping through the cover material. I wrapped a fine wove linen bookbinding cloth around the spine before covering. Time will tell if it was enough.
I went with a traditional half bound leather covering (goat skin) with english hand marbled paper.
For the inside I was happy to find a cloth very similar to what Scott uses to cover the inside of the spine, but twice as thick. That's a tough hinge!
I found some great colored textured scrapbook paper (acid free of course) at my local A.C. Moore for the inside covers and fly leaves.
I'm really happy how it came out, a little rough in a few spots but still nice. I think it's gonna be a great album to house my Philadelphia related Revenue stamps and other related material.
I'm going to make a nice label for the front eventually as well.
Well I hope you guys dig it!

I think you have something to be proud of! It looks like you did a great job. You can probably use it for a lifetime now.

I'm going to start looking around at some of the scrapbook places to see if I can find some materials to rebuild a couple of old binders. If I can put them back similar to like factory condition I would be thrilled. Thanks for posting your project!

Very nice indeed! If you do this again it would be neat to have some in-progress pictures in order to see "behind the scenes" so to speak.
