For sale on ebay. Seems like a total fabrication. Any thoughts?

The loco's look brighter than than the Washington, yet the Washington is affixed over the middle loco.

1. The two target cancellations do not match; in fact, the far left cancel looks like a Japanese double-circle native cancel of 1880-period.
2. The color of the target cancels do not match the grid cancel to the right.
3. Grid cancel on the stamp to the far right does not appear to match-up to the placement of the stamp on the cover (see where the "RE" in "THREE CENTS". (Could be the stamps was removed to check for a grill and poorly replaced OR doesn't belong.

Bottomline: Cavaet Emptor!

3c 1857 was demonetized in 1861 so could not possibly be on a cover with the Locomotive stamp of 1869. Some 1857s are known used after demonitization but they're all rare and a census exists with all known covers.
Hope this helps, Ray

The 114's have been added to the cover. The 3 cent Washington is original to the cover.

That would seem to ignore human nature. Somebody had the stamp, somebody used the stamp. Its not like Amazon, where they go into your eReader and erase the book you thought you had bought. Clerk could have said 'sorry, need more stamps'.

That having been said, I have no useful opinion on the validity/fabrication of the cover.

Cheers,
