I assume this is an East German stamp, from the looks of it 1950's or -60's...anyone know the purpose? Party dues? Would a coalition of parties have even been collecting dues?

It reminds me of the German municipal revenues.

Thanks for looking.

I can't help much with the stamp itself, but the "5" in the UR corner of the picture suggests to me that it may be one of a series of stamps printed within the same sheet.

wt1, you're slipping.

I was counting on you for a few aerial pictures of the building before and after reconstruction and some background on the family of the trolley motorman, Rolf.

There can't be many people interested in these little guys. At least outside of German-speaking forums.

Clearly not a postage or revenue stamp, for either East or West Germany. Wikipedia doesn't help, as apparently nearly every country in Europe had a "National Front" at one time or another. DDR's National Front was founded in 1950, which strikes me as about the right time period for this label.

Good question...

from Wikipedia

Quote:
the East German mark (also named "Deutsche Mark" from 1948 to 1964 and colloquially referred to as the Ostmark — Literally Eastmark)...

So I'm still thinking East Germany.

It isn't a stamp. It's a "Spendenmark." As I understand the system, you contributed money to the organization, in this case Nationale Front, and received this "sticker" in exchange. There are a number of organizations that issued them. They were collected into albums.

Yours is from a 1949 series, "Vaterland"

Edit: I forgot to add that the "5" indicates that it is a picture of the main train station in Leipzig.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.
