Here is a French poster stamp showing poppa Joffre. This is the only one I have seen but I am sure there are others out there.

Note that there is a face value on it with 50 cents. I suppose this went to a fund or special drive. It states "National Subscription"? What this is about, I am not certain?

I do not know what yours is. I have a sheet (half sheet shown) of WWI Generals where Joffre is shown also.

For the Joffre label, I have seen various explanations ranging from WW1 Fund-Raising labels to 1937 Subscription stamps !

Here is a nice little read:

http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archiv...415B858DF1D3

There are at least 4 different colours from different printings, I have seen many shades, especially of the brown and blue.

Here is one on a 1937 cover:

Here are 4 colours and a shade variety:

Puzzler.....nice Item. Looks like a Red Cross pane [stapled] by some Women's Organization.

Can you scan closer so I can see one of the labels?

Thanks

Yes, it's as it looks, a Booklet pane. two panes of 10 with an adjoining gutter. Pricey but very nice.

JOFFRE UPDATE:

I have found booklets of 20 labels, 5 different Panes [and colours], margins all round and issued to raise funds for the Joffre Monument on the Avenue De La Grande Armee in Paris.

JOFFRE POSTER STAMP- ANOTHER UPDATE !

It appears that a nice little side collection cann be made of this issue alone.

The booklets come in many different varieties which may also explain the colour variances seen.

Now Bujutsu has got me going......I think I want them all, and there are many !

Interesting all

I actually got my example out of a H.E. Harris bag of 1000 stamps many years ago.

I wasn't aware that this design is known in different colours.

It is interesting to see a complete booklet pane intact with front & back covers.

There sure are some interesting stamps on this topic.
