... or anyone else with the Michel specialized catalogue for Germany.

I know that this is Mi 309, but it has a pretty different shade than I am usually coming across on this issue...

can you recognize this one?

Hi filipo
According to my Stanley Gibbons Germany catalogue the stamp above (looks like the perf 14) came in rose-pink and rose-red shades. The zigzag roulette version also came in two shades, bright rose and rose-red. Hope this helps.

The other colors I see for this stamp are Orange Red (orangerot) and Brownish Red (braunlischrot).

Can you check the spacing on the overprint? Should be 2 or 2.5mm.

Free space between the "Millionen" and the vertical bars? Or I missed the point about what spacing you think about? It seems to be 2mm. But, on all other examples I have near me know is 2mm, too.

Btw. what is mostly confusing me now is the color. I have a dozens of 309 in the shade as the pair on the scan below, 2 much darker red with the postmark of Bielefled (also on the scan), which I also found could be an unusual color, but not as the pair which I showed on the start of this topic.

The reason I asked about the spacing is that Michel lists five varieties of the perfed 2 millionen on 2 mark -- three with 2.5mm (plate printing - 309 A P) and two with 2mm spacing (rotary printing - 309 A W). I was hoping that would narrow it down a bit.

309 A P a -- gray red to dark gray red
309 A P b -- bright orange red
309 A P c -- bright cinnamon
309 A W a -- dark to blackish gray red
309 A W b -- dark cinnamon, dark orange red

I am not sure did I measured the right space... is this a spacing which needs to be measured?

Which this one could be the colour from the PostmasterGS's list?

------------------------------------------------------------>

309 A P a -- gray red to dark gray red
309 A P b -- bright orange red
309 A P c -- bright cinnamon
309 A W a -- dark to blackish gray red
309 A W b -- dark cinnamon, dark orange red

Sorry, I really have a problem with colours...

filipo,

It's almost impossible to differentiate these without comparing them to a known copy or a color guide. Sorry...

Yes, I know. I saw a colour guide named "MICHEL Farbführer"... it is official MICHEL's guide for the colours... probably more than useful for all collector of the German stamps.

It is. It's not perfect, but it'll at least get you close.

I just ordered one, and Deutsche-Speczial vol. 1 catalogue, too. I was in doubt to order an original Deutsch edition or the English one, but, it looks that German has more than 1000 pages, and English only 500. So, I suppose that Deutsch are more extensive than the English version... or I have missed something?

Btw. I have a Saar no.1 with the broken "S" in the overprint... is that kind of variety listed in some catalog?

The German version is far more thorough. Your Volume 1 will have the Saar plate flaw.

Great. Is there any available handbook/catalogue for the German postmarks? I suppose the Michel have issued such a kind of guide.

The Infla-Berlin organization in Germany has issued a series of booklets, some of which cover the cancels of the German inflation period. Their web site is http://www.infla-berlin.de/.

Because many of the stamps have a higher value used rather than unused, the Michel catalog values for used stamps of this period are only for those that are "signed" by a recognized expert. Many "used" stamps have forged cancels or were canceled later with the date of the canceling device set back to when the stamps were still valid.

I am unable to find this error in the Michel Specialized... does it means that this is not a real plate error?
