Computer vended postage, or ATM stamps. In German, Automatenmarken (I believe).

Beautiful Klussendorfs !

Sue, your 2 ATM's were produced on a Klussendorf machine and are from the 1990's when water activated gum was still used.

The machines were modified in 2001/2 for the birth of the Euro and have since been self-adhesive....although still in the same beautiful style.

The top ATM was in use from 1993-1999 and shows Schloss Sanssouci.
The bottom one is a Posthorn in use from 1981-1994.

Klussendorf machines were used in many countries including where I live in Israel and they make wonderful collections. Sadly, the use here was discontinued in 2002 when the machines went Self-Adhesive and the collecting of such labels in Israel went into decline.

Thank you so much for the replies!
VERY interesting in deed!
I have about 30 of these so I'll definitely keep them and trade a few!
Most fascinating!
Sue

You may not care, but before you trade away a few, it might be worth checking to see if the accumulation you have has varying values across the stamps.

I've ended up with some small lots of these from time to time, and a couple of them had what would amount to a 'set' of stamps in different values. Perhaps someone who is familiar with how these are collected can give a better explanation.

(Not that you couldn't split up a set, if you have one, but I wanted to point out the possibility, in case it would make a difference to your plans.)

I just found a website and you can see a man loading one of the machines and the different types, bold, double star etc. Too bad it's in German, but I think I can still figure most of it out. Here it is:

Specialists may spot some grander scheme at work. Looks like some duplication to me...

The earlier ATM's until 2002 were in Pfennig and were issued in multiples of 5pf [5,10,15 etc].\
After 2002 they were dispensed in any denomination that you wanted [1c, 2c etc etc].

I like the German ATM's and they do make for a nice sideline.
