Too much moisture in the basement, so going to get a dehumidifier. Anyone have suggestions (preferably based on experience) as to "ideal" settings?

thanks!

The exact temperature and humidity levels are still debated but the rule of thumb is to avoid extremes and avoid fluctuations, if it is poor environmental conditions for your family it is bad for your stamps.
Being consistent with the temperature and relative humidity levels will limit the paper from constantly shrinking and stretching (breaking down the fibers) and slows the formation of acids. Ideally your storage area should remain lower than 68 degrees F, with relative humidity between 30 and 50%. Fluctuations should not exceed +/- 5 degrees F and +/- 3% relative humidity within any 24 hour period.

Note: You have to control both temperature and humidity – relative humidity varies over temperature.

I can't give you all of the technical talk but for a basement I would recommend one that works in lower temperatures so it does not freeze.

Maybe it's time to shift anything of value or sentiment to another room in the house that doesn't retain too much moisture.
