Here's a unique vending machine from yesteryear. I found the image quite by accident on the internet and thought I'd post it here. Apparently it was on sale at ebay at one point but has since been removed.

The graphics on the front seem to read:

STATIONERY
2 Sheets Writing Paper and
Envelopes with 3c Stamps Affixed

All for 10 cents. Not exactly a big money maker, but a unique piece nonetheless. All a person needed now was a pen and a close by mailbox...

As the original image is quite small:

...I attempted to enlarge it, even though it loses something in the transition:

Does anyone remember having seen such a machine before?

New to me wt1

Is this on the same lines as the "Mail-O-Mat" machines from the 1950s?

I don't think so.

The Mail-o-Mat was the sort of thing that would have been installed at post offices.

On the other hand, the unit shown in the above scan would have been a vending machine installed at places that had also used the stamp vending machines, however, in this case, instead of just buying a stamp, you got two pieces of paper and two envelopes with the stamps already affixed, so you could write your letter and mail it without having to buy those supplies separately (assuming you had a pen and a mailbox handy...)

If you put yourself back into the day when this thing was probably in use, I could envision someone at a supermarket or department store service desk buying a couple of money orders to pay some bills (before banking by mail or by computer was ever thought of) and then one needed to get an envelope and stamp to mail it off to whomever. At least that's my best guess.
