Can anyone tell me which penny red this is. There is no plate number in the lining, no maltese cross, and no watermark on the back ( non I can see). http://imageshack.us/g/1/10311624/

It's really hard to determine for me, been busy for 4 hours now :P and no progress.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum sneezie.

I am not an expert on the Penny Reds, but, you might want to try out the "Mulready Group". You can either "Google" that or try Yahoo.

Hope this helps?

Your stamp WILL have a watermark...small crown or large crown. What is the perforation... 16 or 14? Which book is your reference? Penny reds can be tricky beggers to identify. You need good eyes and lots of practice...so four hours is only the beginning. Alphabet types and Die types come into play for instance.
As a rough guess I think your stamp is an SG17 or SG24 or SG26 or highly likely a SG40

First of all, thank you guys for welcoming me on the forum, its nice to be here :) and thank you for the reply's.
I'm pretty sure it has a perforation of 14.
To be honest, all I know about penny red, all I know about stamps is what I learned today. And, at this point I admire what I have learned, especially the history and just general knowledge that comes with the collecting of stamps, its amazing. But I don't have any knowledge about any stamps. I found a collection of stamps in a abandoned house, and I kept them with me for the past 4 years now, just having them as a memory of a really nice period in my life, and as for now, I was just seeing if the stamps were worth anything. Getting to the point where I think this penny red has a tiny chance of being worth more than 10 dollars, just as most other stamps are worth almost nothing(in terms of financial value), I think id just like to keep them, cause I really like having them haha. If there would be a 100 dollar stamp, in the (small) collection, I would sell it, I mean, if its worth that much I ought to make someone else happy with it :P I did find some really interesting french stamps in the collection. I uploaded a photo of them on the link I used in my first post.
Maybe someone's interested in seeing them.

Thanks again

PS: I cant make the image rotate on that website for some reason, sorry.

In good condition your penny red stamp would have a catalog value of around 10 UK pounds. Catalog value, I'm afraid, does not equal actual value as a good condition penny red stamp can be obtained for 20% of cat value. So...actual price is around 2 pounds. Condition is important and your stamp is in bad shape with a nibble out of the right side and poor perfs on the bottom. Real value in my opinion is very low as it can be classed as a space-filler.
Post a few more of your "find" and, who knows, maybe somthing of philatelic value is there.
