Difference Between US 481 And 531

They're both 1 cent green A140, unwmk, imperf. I'm guessing that maybe the 481 is rotary press? Also,mine has two large rectangular "perforations" on one side. Is this a Schermack?

Isn't the 481 flat plate printing and the 531 offset printing?

Both were issued imperforate: 481 is flat plate and 531 is offset. Without seeing the stamps, yes it sounds as if you have a Schermack perforated stamp.

YES...everyone is correct. Color is different also.
#531 is a dull green, easy to tell the difference for a #481 which is a deep green color.
Side by side....easy. Plus flat vs offset.

thanks, everyone. The site MikeQ noted tells how to id an offset printed stamp. Didn't realize it was not engraved.
