An interesting read on the subject of why stamp collecting is becoming so popular an investment in Asia:

It's good to see stamp collecting making a resurgence. I thought, Mao banned philately in China, but it seems that he had no problem exporting it abroad.

That was a really interesting article. Are there any auction houses in Hong Kong that use English?

My girlfriend's mother just dropped this off to me and I will read it later. I know when I went to the big show in Columbus a couple years ago, China was still red hot. But at ROPEX this past spring, dealers had told me that the market had cooled a bit. What are others finding?

Regarding Hong Kong auction houses that use English, check out John Bull Auctions or Dynasty Auctions. Dynasty is an offshoot of Daniel Kelleher Auctions. There are probably others; these two come quickly to mind.

I just looked at a page from a 1982 catalog, "the whole country is red"(999A) listing price back then was $4250 in mint.

I don't buy it , please tell me how many catalogs are being printed ,how many albums and binders are being sold . How many new stamp supplies firms are there ? . Surely I haven't seen a explosion in philatelic publishing in the Chinese language .Who is exporting stamp hinges to China ,nobody !. Sorry that article could of been written 6 years ago ,other than a few key issues being played by a group of speculators and huge crowds at Chinese Stamp Shows who buy recent issues from the Post Office ,im not impressed with this news article.

I doubt if anyone in China or Hong Kong has heard of stamp hinges let alone use them,

... and if they were buying stamp hinges, they'd probably be made in China.
