The first is a 1959 issue of Mongolia showing the badge of the Mongolian Youth Festival (SG162)

What could possibly make you think it was Hungarian???

The top script on the stamp looks a little like Cyrillic, that's why I thought Hungarian. And it was also mixed in with some Hungarian stamps. Now that I think about it's the Bulgarians that use both Cyrillic and Latin on their stamps. Next time I need to put on my thinking cap.

On the second one I looked up the scripts: Burma, Nepal, Laotian, Thailand. Funny thing is I know the Japanese script for Japan and China so I ruled those out.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The text on the top stamp is indeed Cyrillic which is used on stamps of Russia/ex-Russia, Bulgaria,Yugoslavia/ex-Yugoslavia and Mongolia.

The writing at the top is BNMAU the acronym for the full state name of the Mongolian People's Republic 'Bügd Nairamdakh Mongol Ard Uls'
The word at the bottom reads Shuudan which means Postal Service.

Hungarian is not a Cyrillic language, by the way. The language is magyar and is a Uralic language. The only European languages that are similar are Finnish and Estonian.

What is the currency symbol or currency name for the Mongolian stamp?

It does look somewhat like the Hungarian Forint currency symbol.

HungaryForStamps, I thought Cyrillic was an alphabetic system not a language group?

Cyrillic is an alphabet. It us used by several countries.

When I saw the top stamp and the double yy, I immediately thought mongolia. Look at the name of the country on Mongolian stamps. I am probably wrong, but I associate the double yy with Mongolia.
