http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philately

I searched the Wikipedia page for "Philately" and was surprised to see it quite underdeveloped. For example, under Tools, albums are not mentioned and under Organizations, none are listed. Expanding on ways to buy stamps (ebay, auction firms, USPS) may also be a good addition. I am sure there are some other deficiencies to address.

I would like to help edit this wiki to get it up to standard and invite my fellow "philatelists" to make suggestions in this thread. I will incorporate your suggestions with my edits. I also encourage my colleagues to get in on the editing if you are so inclined. Editing a Wiki is pretty simple!

Further developing this Wiki page could be one way to welcome more new collectors.

I understand your point of view but the author meant it to be concise with just the basics. Expanding the tools paragraph could discourage people who are thinking about entering the hobby. Don't forget this is a defenition not a book on philately. Anyway someone who start googling stamp and philately will eventualy get all the informations he need. That's how I reenter the hobby 8 years ago. So my advice is to leave the wiki like it is. Daniel

I agree somewhat but there should be a little more there.

Ok, add a stamp mount cutter and mention a scanner is essential to participate to philately forum like SCF. But even then it's not essential because you find it easily by yourself when you start collecting.

Another way, or slant if you will, to this topic is, that Wiki, or any other source of information is only as good as the person putting in the information to it.

In so many cases, we have to accept the fact that anyone contributing the information on any given topic, is up to snuff on their education on these specific articles. This is where knowledge is power <G>.

My opinion of course.

At least they got this part right. The word "Philately" is often thought to refer only to stamp collecting.
