I am new to stamp collecting. I ordered several sheets of high valued definitive stamps (high valued wildlife Series) yesterday. I have been collecting coins with wildlife images for quite a while, so I decided to also do the same for stamps.

My research on Canadian definitive stamps shows that there are older series of wildlife stamps. Is this site complete (for a search of all past series of high valued definitive stamps) ?

The Loon (1687), White-tailed deer (1688), Atlantic Walrus (1689), Polar Beer (1690), Peregrine Falcon (1691), Sable Island Horse (1692), Moose (1693), Grizzly Bear (1694) and Blue Whale (2405) make up the "High valued Wildlife Definitives".

Thank you! Canada Post is out of full panes of the polar bear and loon, so I need to find a store that has those in stock.

Petersun

Why are you doing this?

I realize that there is no "right" way to collect but you are new to this hobby and I find it odd that you would spend large sums on sheets of stamps. Do you like the look of them? Do you think they will increase in resale value over time?

I don't get it.

Hello Peterson,

Welcome. I collect only Newfoundland stamps (a province of Canada that once was its own issuer of stamps).

I am unabashedly biased, but Newfoundland has some pretty wildlife stamps--including a whole set of caribous.
But also others like harp seals, fish, newfoundland dogs, and if you count British royalty as wildlife, then many of those.

here is an image of the Caribou series from 1919

Thank you for the advices.

I am buying sheets not noly just for my collection but also for my lettermail mailing to overseas from time to time.Mailing to places like China would cost me more than $7.60 for every 300 grams. Since I have never even used Canadian stamps before, I ordered two sheets (the walrus/deer and Sable Horse/falcon) so I have the choice of both using the stamps and keeping corners for a collection.

Petersun, great idea. Also, I personally think they are some of the nicest recent stamps Canada has put out. Most are hard to get anymore at face value or less (ie. bulk purchase on ebay, etc).
