Hi, After several reviews of the catalogs and web sites, I ended up with 4 stamps - which I assume are Polish - that I can't identify.
1. - Horizontal "pen drawn" bright red on white, 30x23 mm, with the image of a large building. There is a big "1918" on top, with "RADA MIEJSKA" beneath. Under the image is "MIASTA PRZEDBDRZA". There is a "4" in each bottom corner, with "Grosze" in the center.
2. Another pen drawn image, green on white, a vertical 24x30mm. It appears to be a "sword holding half human" in the center with an arch overhead and columns on the side. A "1915" is overheac, and "groszy" is in the center bottom. The original amount is * out, and "6 GR" is overprinted.
3. Similar to number 2, only dull red on white. The image appears to be a "war bird" with 1915 printed over head. There is a "2 GR" overprint, with original values * out. In the center of the bird is a banner with "k.o.m.w." written.
4. This is also a vertical image, about 24x30. It is more of an engraving of a big building, with "3 zl" in the upper left hand corner, and "Polska" on the bottom. This appears to be a mid '40s era stamp as it is printed on the dull white/brown paper. The image is blue/green.
Folks, any guidance you could provide would be appreciated!

1 is a WW1 local post run by the Austrian occupation forces in the Polish town of Przezborz: 2 and 3 are WW1 local posts in Warsaw run by the KOMW (Citizens' Committee for the City of Warsaw) in German occupied Poland. These illustrations are from Ben Nieborg's excellent site http://www.stampspoland.nl/index.htmlI haven't yet worked out number 4. It really is EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to identify material as obscure as this from verbal descriptions. If you do not have a scanner at least please post the best photograph you can manage along with a description. |

Hi, Well, you are 3 for 3, thank you! I read about the WWI "local posts" and figured that was what those were but had no way of knowing for certain.
I apologize for lack of pics. Photobucket and I have had problems, and I have tried to post but with no success. I have not given up, however.
Again, thank you!

Hi again, I just realized that the 4th stamp may be cut out of postal stationery as it has straight cut edges (no evidence of perfs). Which brings up the question, where would I find info on Polish stationery stamps? |

Is this it? The current catalogue is the Fischer Volume 2 which contains all of the Polish Postal Stationery. Fischer cp99 1947 25 Sept You've got to watch that Przedborz Municipal stamp, most are forgeries, the pic of the one posted is genuine the "rays" at the top have a focal point roughly centred above the stamp, forgeries have the rays focusing to the upper left. Here's the link to THE site for these stamps http://www.prz.ginsburgs.org/ Predborz Municipal Post no. 8 Forgery |

Thank you YeaPolska! Yes, that is the stamp, and of course it is stationery. From all indications, this one appears to be real.
I really appreciate your looking into this, and for providing yet another fine link to stamp identification.
ENJOY! Mobilman44 |

That's an attractive postal card. Buildings on stamps is a favorite topic of mine.

The stamp pic looked to me like something you would find in Washington. |

Yes, I should have mentioned that the pic on the stamp is the Belweder Palace in Warsaw, lots of info here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BelwederOne of the very few buildings in Warsaw which survived WW II The pic on the Postal Card is of the Town Hall in Leszno |

Both Przedborz stamps are forgeries I'm afraid. I've circled the characteristic dots. Michel 5 Forgery Michel 15 Forgery |

Marvelous. Thank you Rick. Shall put on my Album Page, and contact stampforgeries.com to see if he wants to add to his list / link. (He has no forgeries relating to Poland)
