Hi everyone!

I understand that a pen/hand cancellation was sometimes used by the US postal service in its very early years (see the image).
Can anyone tell me what sort of affect this is likely to have on value - I saw it being suggested that it might generally discount the value by 40% but if that is correct, would this be discount on 'unused' or 'used' price? and what might be the best way of selling it?

Please help - I'm stuck!

thanx

RobinB...On the earlier issues Scott does value used items with PEN CANCELS...Pen cancels are usually valued about 40-50% less in catalog value (used value)... I have a 2009 Scott....#2 used VF cv$1400, pen cancel $750.

Hi kevin504

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on this subject in which you're clearly a specialist which I am not! I was given the stamp by my grandfather in the 1950's when ebay was still nearly half a century away from being launched and I think that is now my best bet for selling it.
Thanx so much again
