I know that this topic has popped up many times but the desire to start a stamp club is very strong. I live in Clearfield, Pennsylvania and I'm pretty sure that there are some stamp collectors around here just from browsing the antique and curio establishments plus there is a large and very fancy/upscale retirement home that used to be the Dimeling hotel that I can only imagine is chock full of intelligent collectors of one sort or another. How would I go about starting a club? I guess I could just ask the local library if I could hang up a flyer and use it as a meeting place until I see if it's going to pan out attendance/interest wise. What advice could you give me for getting the word out? I know some of you have done this already and hopefully have some advice I could tap into? I thank you for any guidance you may provide in advance. -Jeff

If you contact the APS they can provide you with a set of mailing labels for the zip codes in close to your location. That would presumedly pick up all the APS members in the environs.

APS can also tell you if there is already a stamp club in your general vicinity. No need to "re-invent the wheel" if you don't have to. Good luck.

You have a really short population to draw from. I suppose you could draw from Curensville and the other small towns. DuBios would be a haul.

I would think the best place would be the new library you all got. Though maybe the Elks or some other social club would give you space?

Johnstown has a stamp club and with over 100,000 people in the area they do not draw that many members.

But hey it is worth a try.

I just started a club here in Redmond Oregon. I got the mailing label for the local APS members from APS, as aforementioned. Just have to ask them. I went to my library and reserved the free meeting room. Once I had a date, I sent out invitations to all the members and hung flyers. I went ahead and prepared everything. Cookies, Coffee, A notebook for people to write their contact information in. ( I need to be able to reach my new members) I called it an exploritory meeting. At the first meeting we had round the room intros.
Nov 9th is our third meeting and were having a stock book trade.

Clearfield is an old little town and I almost have to believe that there would be a few collectors in the area but like already mentioned no need to re-invent the wheel. We are pretty close to the APS headquarters so I'll just have to do some poking around to see what's plausible.
