I finally hit 10,000 positive feedback on ebay! I know it sounds trival, but I've been pushing myself to sell more online since my regular job is floundering (archaeology is a shrinking field). It's a personal milestone for me and I thank everyone who has ever bought anything from me. I may not have the best top-notch items in the world, but I pride myself in providing service and representation of the items I do have.

Well, that is very good news! Archaeology is a shrinking field? Must be because all of us are now getting younger?
All kidding aside, Battlestamps. Why is that?

Peter,
Thanks! Most of the archaeology in the United States is performed prior to development of a parcel of land - a new or improved road, shopping center, power lines, sewer line, new neighborhood etc. It's called CRM or Cultural Resource Management. Depending on the laws and the environment to be impacted, a developer needs to comply with the environmental laws. That's where archaeology comes in. We test the parcel to see if there's anything of cultural significance - Native American, early colonial, early American etc. It's part of the permit process. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending how you see it), at least in New York and New England there's been less development overall thus a lower need for archaeologists overall. If fracking came to New York and it's trying, there will be oodles of archaeology projects as it's part of the permit process before a fracking company can drill. That would be like making a deal with the devil in some folks' minds.
I'm also getting too old for the profession as it is physically demanding (and the ticks...oh so many ticks). My wife is pushing me to become a full-time eBay/Delcampe stamp and cover dealer. An anthropology and history degree is not really appreciated by many in the standard working world, but does help in the philatelic world.

How much money do you make when you sell an item for 99c. I found it was less then 10 cents. Was I doing it wrong?

You have to see the forest through the trees - not everything sells for 99 cents. Also, I don't pay ebay any listing fees (or a store fee).
