Hello,
I have just registered with this forum.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction..?
I tell thee for why.
Recently I have been handed down a large selection of stamps in albums.
My initial thoughts were they are run of mill regular stamps. Yesterday I had a guy have a look and he thinks there are some half decent stamps slighty scarcer.
I know there really isnt anything special (well I dont know)
I just wanted some basic advice as to how to research and find the scarcer stamps within the collection.
I will add some images when I can of some of the stamps.
The collection is from many countries of the world and there are many that seem to be very old.
When I say these have been handed down its not obligation I continue to collect and cherish all the stamps for the rest of my life.
Im an avid collector of coins, I just dont have the time to start collecting more things.
Also my wife would leave me if I take on another challenge hhehee
Yes so photos to follow..
Any information would be appreciated, and if anyone can confirm if the following images are just run of the mill. There are literally thousands so I will take photos of the older looking one. Although I would imagine this does not mean they are the best by any means.
thanks for reading my long post.
Many thanks
Pmats

Hi, welcome to the Forum!
Your situation seems to be pretty common these days. Some folks think they struck it rich when they come into an album or pack of stamps. Sadly, most stamps from around WWII to the present are just not worth anything significant. BUT, there are always exceptions.
As you are not interested in getting into the hobby, I suggest you take some pics and post them here. If you have albums, just opening them to a few pages and taking pics would be very indicative as to potential value.
Looking forward to seeing what you have! |

Does this guy have much philatelic knowledge? If so, did he show you any of the stamps that were "slightly scarcer"? |

yeh I just took a load of photos but then saw I dont have a usb 2 cable for my camera I am going to borrow one now and I will upload some pics via photo bucket this afternoon. It seems many of the stamps are pre WWII.
The pictures I have taken are from one small album there are another 50 plus larger albums with stamps alike.
thanks for your reply. |

The guy who looked at some of them merely said they are not just regular stamps and worth investigation.
Hence my investigation has begun.

Often, one can get a feel for the possible worth of the collection by the kinds of albums used.
I Pic of them would certainly help in a general feel for what you have. |

Quote: Any information would be appreciated, Did these albums simply drop out of the sky? Whoever was responsible for them must have provided some information. It would appear that this was the collection of a European. Are you also living in Europe? If so why don't you take the albums to a local stamp club and ask the members for their opinion? You might also bring them to a stamp dealer for an appraisal. I don't understand why you are posting on this forum. Many of the stamps have been identified by their Michel catalogue number. http://www.briefmarken.de/international-customers Quote: Can anyone please point me in the right direction..? Get some catalogues and do your own work. You tell us that you are a coin collector so it will not be difficult for you to obtain the information you seek on your own. Quote: , I just dont have the time to start collecting more things. Apparently you don't have the time to do basic research either. |

A nice ww stamp accumulation (I wouldn't dare to call it "a collection"), with a mixture of used and unused low value common stamps. I 100% agree with Lorddenning and don't understand the reason of your post. Do you want us to tell you that they're worthy to go to dealer? Do some research and find it by yoursef... |
