Can anyone recommend a good stamp catalog for French stamps. I have a lot of back-of-the-book stuff that isn't shown in the Scott catalog.

Years ago I used to see catalogs by Ceres and Yvert, but I can't seem to determine if they're still around or where I can buy one.

I can read French passably, so language (at least in French) is not an issue.

Thanks,

Larry

the best is Maury, and the 2014 edition was just released.

Amazon.fr had the catalog in stock about a month ago, but seems to be out of stock at the current time.

Older versions are prob available. I got the 2011 edition from Amazon.fr for about US$40 last month, its an absolute gold mine of info.

Thanks for the link. It's an interesting site (and challenges my French reading skills).

I'm trying to identify two "Timbres de Franchise" that I have circa WWII. They have the inscriptions "Courriere Special Par Avion" and "Corps Expeditionnaire Legion Volontaires Francais ContreBolchevisme."

I believe that they were used for postage, but I'm not sure of the translation of "Timbres de Franchise."

Timbres de Franchise means exemption from the payment of postal charges. Often used by members of the military.

Just resuscitating this thread to say that Maury seems to have been purchased by Spink. With luck, this should make the catalogues easier to obtain in future.

Geoff, thanks for the link. With a little luck, Spink will issue an updated Maury catalog sometime in the 4th quarter of this year.

I probably posted elsewhere the link to Yvert's online offering, which covers their French, Classic and other catalogues, but here goes ...
