I recently had occasion to use covers and their associated information (i.e., sender-receiver names, addresses, postmarks, stamp issue dates) in preparing a family tree/history. Using postal covers I was able to place specific individuals in instances where they had moved between census dates. This got me wondering - are there organizations that specifically prepare master lists using information from old covers to facilitate genealogical searches?

In my case, I'm mostly interested in Canada, US and the British Isles.

Not sure if this is useful or not for you but as your interest involves GB it might help if you want Scottish ancestry details.

This link is to Post Office Directories which lists just about every address and occupant in a city or district in a given year... the specific example I link to is Glasgow 1828 (other dates and places are available)
