This stamp has some anomalies above the Queens crown as well as some ink overage on the borders and some ink below the frame. The bottom letters of CANADA POSTAGE are distorted and some separated on the lower seriffs. There are extra lines above the crown which make it look extended thus "FANCY CROWN VARIETY". There is also extra vertical shading lines on the hair on the back of the Queen's head. I am new to this and this is only the second stamp I have purchased and received so would very much appreciate some feedback. Thanks.

Hi COINWATCHER
None of the variations you have on this stamp are known to me, not are they listed in the 2014 Unitrade.
The green ink splashed on the bottom of the stamp suggests that the appearance of CANADA POSTAGE and both the lines and the spots in her hair may be part of the ink splatter.
I also don't know if your stamp is SC24 or SC36.

Would this possibly be a new variety discovery or a printing error?

If it is just a splattering of ink during the printing process, it would be a non-constant variety, which would have a value to specialist collectors.

Usually, one-off varieties command a premium, but I couldn't guess what it would be in this case.

Do any of you experts out there have any kind of an idea what a stamp like this may be worth. There are no faults and it is lightly hinged.

I agree that the stamps looks to have ink spalttters and ink pulls also at various places.

Perhaps checking the Re-entries web site will show some similarities or differences.

There are a lot of stamps that look different to even the experienced eye, especially if you suddenly are looking for irregularities.

Try looking at the stamp as if everything on it is OK to start with and Then try to prove to yourself any variety or error.

Thanks for sharing, nice. You have a good eye.

.

It's a SC36. The SC24 has "TWO CENTS" at the bottom, the SC36 only has "CENTS".

Here is a little better look at the "FANCY CROWN" which appears to be connected forming a complete full crown around the Queen's head. The lower left corner appears doubled, notice that the 2 is doubled on the top of the base and the very corner border has a doubled line. There are two bars in the border below the RH side of the 2, which are mysterious and notice the extra bead above the two on the right of the bars. I am a novice so please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. There is more but it is getting late and my head is starting to spin.

The bars in the border under the 2 are in line with the sphere inbetween the bars and the out of place marking directly below the C of CENTS. My theory is that this is a mis-entry that is actually from the Queen's tiara (crown) because this is the only other part of the stamp that has these types of markings. I am a novice so I would much appreciate comments. Thank-you very much for previous comments.

So obvious that it is hard to see that the Queens tiara is doubled all along the top.

I have done a little playing with the colour features of my photo. It has brang out the ink below the lower border. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Hello,

Here are some of my thoughts. The plate was obviously over-inked creating a splatter and an ink pull in an upwards movement. This gives your stamp a blurried aspect. Look at the lines that make the queen's forehead.....they all extend upwards and are not doubled. I dont think there is a re-entry here and the ink pull would make it hard to confirm. There is a possibility of a misplaced entry around the crown though. I would send a scan to Ralph Trimble of re-entries.com if I were you.

Thank-you for your interest and comments Coriandre but if these were just spatters wouldn't they be in one direction? These spatters are forming checker plates and 3d figures below the lower frame.

I agree with the other comments. But new varieties are found this way everyday. I started collecting VFNH with certs now I collect Kiloware. So much more fun. Like playing with box instead of the toy.

An ink pull goes in one direction and an ink splatter is random see this topic for an example https://goscf.com/t/31959

I beleive yours has both. I also think that your stamp might have a misplaced entry and this would explain the patterns you see. Your best bet would be to submit a scan to www.re-entries.com and to Bill Burden of Eastern auctions who is an expert on the small queen issue.
