Some of your information could be wrong. I understood that the POST PAID one penny was not issued until May 1853. I've never seen one that color either.

It is a genuine 1848 1d. but the Orange has oxidised into a copperish color. This can be brought back to it's original color with expertise.

I have no idea what a 5A is as I don't use Scott's but it appears to be a Gibbons s.g. 11, 1d. Intermediate impression which is a very scarce stamp.

Thanks pagoda. Does the orange color oxidized intentionally or it's naturally became that way ( copperish color)
Does the oxidized stamp still valuable without brought back to original color??
Also I will post another Mauritius stamp tomorrow.

It is unintentional as it is caused by metal in the ink.

When it is brought back to it's original color it would be worth the same whether it had been previously oxidised or not.

There is a hydrogen peroxide-based process that is used to reverse the color change process (which is apparently based on issues with sulfur, rather than oxidation, according to some old posts from khj).

If you search the SCF archives for "sulfur" you'll find many threads.

Not sure I'd have the nerve to try it myself on a scarce-ish stamp...
