A very nice maximum card : THE BERLIN WALL in USA !



This portion of the Berlin Wall was presented to President Reagan at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library ( Simi Valley, California) on April12, 1990.

Ronald Reagan, a president close to my heart !

The Post Office from the National Postal Museum had two postmark cancellers: this pictorial one, and a circular one.
Both are equally valid for 1) real postal use domestically or internationally, or 2) just for "philatelic hand-back".
Therefore, I have successfully mailed postcards/maximum cards with either postmark.

Ronald Reagan - I created only 3 such maxicards.

The pictorial postmark is a bit confusing as the date appears to be applied separately !

I see your point, but it's just that the "dater" is made with replaceable parts, so they can adjust the date, every day.

ROMANIA - Maximum card made with souvenir sheet stamp issued on occasion of AMERIPEX '86

The plane , a Bücker Bü 133B Jungermeister (one of only two versions of that variant ever produced) with the registration YR-PAX, having Alex Papana as pilot, flew across the United States, in 1936, from New York to Los Angeles, winning the race between the cities.
In Los Angeles, with this plane the pilot Alex Papana won the national air races that were held there.

The First Submarine Stamp Issued to Raise Money

It has become common for small countries to issue stamps honoring other countries' submarines in the hope of raising money from stamp collectors. However, the first country to issue stamps for this purpose had a sizable undersea fleet of its own.

When the Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936, Spain's Republican government kept the Nationalist rebels from seizing any of Spain's 12 submarines. Nevertheless, with German and Italian help, the Nationalists gradually wore down Republican forces both at sea and on land. In 1938, with the Republican government desperately short of funds, someone came up with idea of instituting a special submarine mail service called Correo Submarino, whose unique stamps could be sold as souvenirs.

The Nationalists had clamped a naval and air blockade on Minorca, the only Spanish Mediterranean island still in Republican hands. Submarine C-4, then operating between the Republican-held cities of Barcelona and Cartagena, was assigned to deliver the Correo Submarino to the Minorcan port of Mahon.

C-4 left Barcelona on the morning of Aug. 12, 1938 carrying souvenir postcards and postal covers (souvenir envelopes) plus a number of regular letters to Republican naval personnel at Mahon. All of the mail bore the new stamps, the postmark " Correo Submarino Barcelona" and the date 11/agosto/1938. Ironically, C-4 carried the submarine mail to Minorca mostly on the surface, only submerging briefly to avoid enemy aircraft and patrol boats outside the port of Mahon. On the return voyage, she carried mail with the same postmark but dated 13/agosto/1938—even though she did not actually leave Mahon until after dark on Aug. 17.

Unfortunately for the Republicans, the single voyage of the short-lived Correo Submarino raised little revenue. Not until long after the Spanish Republic finally collapsed in 1939 did these rare stamps finally begin to command high prices from collectors and postal history buffs

A nice vintage maximum card ?



NO. It's only a nice "souvenir card". Why ? Because as per FIP Rules a maximum card must comply with three conditions : concordance of (1) Subject, (2) Place, and (3) Time.

Whilst no. 1 & 3 conditions are met , the no.2 condition NOT ! Because in Berlin there was not ( and there is not) a PORT where a submarine ( or any ship) can call at !

So what we have here is only a nice "souvenir card " and not a maximum card !

a maximum card with Karl Marx statue and daytime postmark : -8.-7.76

Between 1953 and 1990 Chemnitz was called Karl-Marx-Stadt. This large statue made by Lev Kerbel (1917-2003) is still there .

A maximum card from last year of Danzig as a Free State

Postmark : ZOPPOT 30.1.39 FREIE STADT DANZIG

The illustrations show the Hanseatic Kogge " Peter van Danzig "

ZOPPOT was a small sea side resort on the Baltic Sea and was part of the "Freie Reichsstadt Danzig" region.

Today the sity is part of Poland with the name : Sopot.

At the date of postmark ZOPPOT was also a small port of call for the ships of shipping line : " The sea service East Prussia"
