Apparently (according to the seller, whom I contacted after the auction closed) this is all due to the postmark, Morris Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, a DPO that was only around a few years at the turn of the century.

What puzzles me, is that if the postmark is so valuable then why was I able to snap this up for $5 a few days later, with only one other bidder competing?

It's not just the cancel, but the stamp it is on. Very scarce on a 5c Leaf vs the 1c Numeral.
Still, a very nice stamp/cancel you purchased. Who knows what it may sell for down the road?

Aug 22, 1922 was a Monday.

The stamp itself is visually nicely bright with good colour.

The cancel is clearly printed and readable, year date included.

Some people make calendars out of cancels on nice stamps (or not) because there are more fully readable cancels from certain post offices or Post Masters than others during a specific time period, namely with beautiful stamps issued.

Of course, all stamps are beautiful.

Thanks for the forum link Puzzler, not sure how I missed this topic! I had actually contacted the seller Boris, who ended up chiming in on the thread, and he told me he had sold a few 1-3c Jubilees for $20-$40 because of the Morris St. cancel.

My specimen is low value with some perf faults so I don't expect it will be worth much, but I figured I should add it to my collection anyway.
